CHARACTERISTICS OF LEATHER

This document explains the main chemical characteristics of its own products and at the same time it suggests some instructions about the use of them.

 The following indications are referred to the daily production; however they can change for special items or sample. Of course these “specials” need particular processes and preservation.

 At the same time we suggest you some care to improve its use without any warranty and liability.

 
We would inform you that:

  1. The amount of aromatic amines remains into the limits defined by the Attached XVII of European Rule 1907/2006 (REACh)  – test method  UNI EN ISO 17234-1:2010 (*)
  2. The amount of chrome (VI) remains into the limits defined by the European Decision 2009/563/CE (ECOLABEL) – test method  UNI EN ISO 17075:2008 (*)
  3. The amount of the free formaldhyde (adult) remains into the limits defined by the European Directive 2009/563/CE (ECOLABEL) – test method  UNI EN ISO 17226-2:2008 (*)
  4. The amount of pentachlorophenol (PCP) remains into the limits defined by the European Decision 2009/563/CE (ECOLABEL) – test method  UNI EN ISO 17070:2007 (*)
  5. The amount of lead and cadmium remain into the limits defined by the European Decision 2009/563/CE (ECOLABEL)  – test method  UNI EN ISO 17072-2:2011 (*)
  6. pH and ΔpH value remain into the limits defined by  UNI 10594:2010 – test method  UNI EN ISO 4045:2008 (*)
  7. No chloroalkane C10-C13 (SCCP) are used for manufacturing our products as defined by the European Decision 2009/563/CE (ECOLABEL) (*) 
  8. Do not contain chemical substances (SVHC), included in the “Candidate List”, published on ECHA website (http://echa.europa.eu/chem_data/candidate_list_table_en.asp) above 0,1% – INDOOR test method (*)
  9. Colour fastness to dry rubbing on leather (UNI 10594:2010) is guaranteed for a value not less than 2 of the international grey scale – test method  UNI EN ISO 11640:2000 (**)
  10. Colour fastness to light after 24 h on leather (UNI 10594:2010) is guaranteed for a value not less than grade 2 of the international grey scale – test method  UNI EN ISO 105-B02:2004 (**)
  11. Tensile strength (UNI 10594:2010) is guaranteed for a value between 10 N/mm2 and 12,5 N/mm2– test method  UNI EN ISO 3376:2006 (***)
  12. Tear load (UNI 10594:2010) is guaranteed for a value between 20N and 35N for sheepskins and 20N and 40N for goatskins – test method  UNI EN ISO 3377-2:2006 (***)
  13. Cracking distension of grain (UNI 10594:2010) is guaranteed for a value not less than 7 mm – test method  UNI 11308:2008 (**)
  14. Flex resistance after 20000 dry cycles (UNI 10594:2010) is guaranteed for a value not less than 2 of the international grey scale and without the presence of remarkable folds– test method  UNI EN ISO 5402:2004 (**)
  15. Flex resistance after 5000 wet cycles (UNI 10594:2010) is guaranteed for a value not less than 2 of the international grey scale and without the presence of remarkable folds– test method  UNI EN ISO 5402:2004 (**)
  16. Avoid, during the assembling phase, elongation above 5% and anyway for period of processing more than 3 seconds
  17. Do not iron and heat the leather at temperatures higher than 60C (140 F) and anyway for period of processing more than 180 seconds
  18. Do not use heated moulds on the leather with temperatures higher than 60C (140 F) and anyway for period of processing more than 180 seconds
  19. Do not process the leather in humid environments or in contact with water vapour for periods more than 60 seconds (that instruction is forbidden for patented and backed items)

By the way, we remind you that leather needs a special care, such as for example:

-         do not expose to direct light sources

-         use circle needle

-         do not expose to direct heating sources

-         avoid excessive rubbing

-         do not expose to temperature below -5 C (23 F)

-         avoid thermal shock

 

Physical and chemical requirements are valid with no aging or other following actions.
